Phullon Walli Galli

Sitaroon Se Aagay Jahan Aur Bhi Hain—Beyond the Stars Other Worlds Exist | Numaish Karachi

Materials: Paper (box sheet), bulbs and holders, wire, laser-cutting

The Phullon Walli Galli, or Flower Alley, greets visitors with the vibrant crimson and saffron—roses and marigolds— of a florist’s stall. This intervention draws inspiration from nature as well as the floral patterns that are ubiquitous in sacred geometry. The glow of the lanterns creates a chiaroscuro effect, a play with light and shadow, that layers onto the already textured environment. Named for Allama Iqbal’s beloved poem, these lanterns fill the alley, shimmering like stars in the night sky, beckoning visitors to follow them unto new worlds.

This digital installation emphasises the sense of abundance created by the dizzying display of endless flowers in the Phullon Walli Galli  or Flower Alley. It allows the viewer to interact and create a sequence of mathematical roulette curves or spirographs that blossom and multiply like thousands of flowers blooming along the wall. After traversing the alley, the viewers can use motion control technology to play with digital renditions of the geometric patterns, thereby cultivating their own garden or bostaan.
